Securing Conservative Victories
We’ve secured a series of conservative victories in recent years. Amendments to the Iowa constitution would protect them in the future.
Two bills running through the legislature could provide meaningful new protections for Iowa taxpayers. SSB 1207 and HSB 232 are identical bills containing two proposed amendments to the Iowa constitution.
The first proposal requires a two-thirds vote of the legislature for any new income tax increase.
The second proposal would constitutionally protect the Taxpayer Relief Fund to ensure it could only be used to cut taxes.
These both seem like common-sense taxpayer protections that several other states have. They make it harder for a future legislature to increase taxes.
